Benefits of Cycling

Regular cycling can improve your health. It can:

  • Provide an excellent workout for the heart
  • Build strength especially in your back and legs
  • Promote the mobility of hip and knee joints.
  • Cycling for 15 minutes at a moderate speed burns the same number of calories as a game of badminton, and you can use it as a form of transport, which is quicker than the bus!

More people cycling means better health and less congestion and pollution in the City.

Getting started

  • If you do not own a bike, why not borrow or hire one to get started.
  • A new bike may be quite expensive, so shop around.  Your local bike shop is a good place to start.  If you have a particular make and model in mind, you can use the internet to find the best prices.
  • Adjust the seat height so that when you pedal you have a slight bend in the knee when your foot is at its lowest point.
  • Adjust the handlebars so that you are comfortable with the reach when leaning slightly forward – too much of a stretch can hurt you back.
