Search activity nearest to you:
- Do you organise physical activity or sport in Brighton & Hove?
- Would you like more members, coaches or volunteers?
- Do you need training, funding or any other kind of help?
Then let us know about it by taking part in the most comprehensive survey of physical activity and sport ever carried out in the City.
Active For Life is funded by Brighton & Hove City Council and Brighton & Hove City Teaching Primary Care Trust to support local activity groups. As well as telling us how we can support you, the survey will result in the creation of an online community directory which is just one way that we aim to get more people, more active, more often.
Inclusion in the database is completely free. You can choose whether details of your activity are kept confidentially by Active For Life or are available to the general public.

Who can be in the Active For Life directory and who can't?
The original Active For Life directory was first published in 1996 by Brighton & Hove City Council Sports Development Team. The current edition, only available in print, contains details of 400 different types of sports and physical activities in the City and the organisations that run them. These are widely available throughout the City. If you'd like a copy, please contact Sports Development 01273 292724 or Contact us by email
Many thousands of adults in Brighton & Hove rely on the directory to find out what's going on in their local area and how to get involved. It's a brilliant and much-loved resource. Now, with funding from Brighton & Hove City Council and Brighton & Hove City Primary Care Trust, it's going to be bigger and better than ever before
The new Active For Life directory:
People who visit the website to use the directory will also find:
Maybe you'd like new members or participants, new coaches or volunteers? Perhaps you're working towards a quality mark or need advice on Child Protection procedures or insurance? Do you have plans for developing your activity but aren't sure where the funding might come from? Would you simply like to know who else is out there so you can share resources, expertise or training?
Locally and nationally, a lot is being done to promote physical activity – encouraging more people to get involved and acknowledging the vital role that providers like yourselves play in creating healthier communities. If you're in the directory, you will be the first to hear about opportunities and support as it becomes available.
To be included, simply fill out the form.
Because this is an online directory, we need the information in electronic format.
We have tried to make the form as friendly as possible and you should only need to complete it once. After that we will contact you for simple updates. If, for any reason, you cannot complete the form yourself, please contact Active For Life on 01273 292724 or Contact us by email. We will arrange for the form to be filled in with the information you provide over the phone.
Please do! Some of the information we're asking for is new. We also need it in this format for the on-line version of the directory and to be able to identify any support needs you tell us about
Yes please! For a number of reasons: firstly, you'll be helping us to build the 'big picture' about the current provision of sport and physical activity; secondly, you may want more members in the future and thirdly, in the meantime, you can tell us about any other plans or needs you have that we may be able to help with e.g. training, funding, publicity etc.
Yes, please! The first question on the form asks if you want to be in the directory. If you answer “No” but complete the rest of the form, we will keep your information as strictly confidential. It will not be made public or shared with anyone else. But it is still very valuable information. It will be used to analyse the needs of activity organisers and to provide the right kind of support in the future (training, funding, advice, information etc). We may use your contact details to let you know about such opportunities but we will not share your details with anyone else.
The web site and the directory will be widely publicised. People will be able to search for activities by type, location, age group, user group, cost etc. They will only be able to see the information that you authorise us to publish on your behalf. We will contact you from time to time to see if your information needs to be updated.
We will contact you to verify that the information you have given us is correct and legitimate. The information you have authorised for publication will be made publicly available on the Active For Life website www.activeforlife.org.uk
Information that you mark as 'confidential', using the check boxes on the form, will not be made public via the website or any other means. This information will be used to analyse local need and provide the right kind of support in the future (training, funding, advice, information etc)
We will send you a copy of the information you have sent us, to your email address - for you to check and keep for your records. If you have made a mistake or left something out contact Active For Life on 01273 292724 or Contact us by email.
Active For Life reserves the right not to publish details of activities or groups that do not meet the requirements of our Inclusion Policy
