16th March 2011: Your Club Your Say Survey launched at the City Sports Forum attended by more than 40 local clubs

More than 40 different sports clubs and activity groups attended a lively City Sports Forum, chaired by David Murray, Strategic Director for Communities at Brighton & Hove City Council.  The evening saw the launch of Your Club Your Say, a survey that ask local clubs how where they need support to help them deliver activities in Brighton & Hove.

15th March 2011: Golf Activies for Young People (Ages 7-11) at Sussex University this Easter

18th to 20th April from 1.00pm to 4.00pm In association with 'Sussex Golf Partnership' and 'Hollingbury Golf Club'.  A fun and exciting introduction to golf. Participants will have the opportunity to use specially created indoor golf equipment and improve their skills Boys and girls 7 to 11 years. Day pass £13.00 / 3 Day pass £32.00. 1st February 2011: Volunteers needed for the Brighton Half Marathon
 

 

Do you have some free time to assist over 8,000 people take part in this event taking place on Sunday 20th February 2011?  The Brighton Half Marathon need help in the weeks leading up to the event as well as on the main race day. Volunteer roles include distributing flyers to local properties, race stewards, supervisor roles, refreshment stations, marshalling on route, set-up team, youth race assistants (with current CRB), start & finish line team and clean up team. If you can offer a few hours of your time to ensure the runners have a smooth & enjoyable day but most importantly raise thousands of pounds for local charities including the main sponsors, The Sussex Beacon, please get in touch with the Volunteer Coordinator, Lisette Glanvill on 01273 645691 or email Lisette.Glanvill@sussexbeacon.org.uk



26th January 2011: £450,000 Gym Refurbishment at King Alfred Leisure Centre

King Alfred Leisure Centre - Brighton and Hove’s largest wet and dry facility is undergoing a major transformation in it’s foyer/reception area.

The old, redundant café is currently being transformed into a fantastic, state of the art fitness facility which will include over 40 stations of brand new LifeFitness cardiovascular and resistance training equipment. A refurbishment dedicated Spin studio also adjoins the gym area with 12 Star Trac spinning (static cycling) bikes.

As well as a large gym the area will also include a refurbished spinning room, male and female changing, toilet and shower areas. A new modern, efficient, heating, ventilation and cooling system is also being installed along with a complete audio visual system. You will be able to enjoy your exercise whilst looking out at the pool, watching the sun set over the sea, watching your favourite programme on the integrated TV or listening to your iPod.

It is scheduled to open on 24 January with a fantastic gym open day on the weekend of 29 and 30 January 2011.

The TAKEPART 2010 Evaluation Report is now available to download. The 2010 festival was a massive success, with thousands of residents taking part in over 200 activites provided by over sport and physical activity clubs and groups in Brighton & Hove. 1st October 2010: Brighton Marathon Volunteer Registration - OPEN



Want to play your part in Brighton and Hove's greatest day of the year? Then sign up as a volunteer for the Brighton Marathon on Sunday April 10th 2011.


To register go on-line at 
www.brightonmarathon.co.uk from October 1st. Brighton Marathon are looking for 2000 volunteers and places are capped so don't delay. You can be a Marshal, Steward or part of one of their Critical Teams. Positions are available in all areas of the city and you can choose where you want to work. If you are not available on the day there are openings pre and post-race. Training will be provided in March.

21st September 2010: South East Coaching Bursary Scheme extended until March 2011

The South East Coaching Bursary scheme has been extended until the end of March 2011. All courses must start before the end of December and must be completed by the end of March.
