Sports Development

Our aim is increase participation in sports and physical activity in Brighton & Hove in order to improve health and wellbeing as well as creating higher levels of performance.Members of the Sports Development Team work hard to make this a reality by organising and supporting sporting and phyisical activity for people of all ages and abilities.

Brighton & Hove City Council's Sports Development team can help you in a variety of ways and can support you to:

 Ladies swimming

  • get active
  • try new activities
  • take part in events and sports festivals
  • improve your health
  • join a sports group/club
  • become a volunteer
  • become a sports leader, coach or official
  • recruit new club members develop your club
  • promote your club source funds for your club/group

 

Sports Development Programmes:

 

The Sports Development Team supports a number of programmes that you could benefit from:

 

Active for Life Project, running since 2005, the project supports people living within specific communities in Brighton & Hove to live active lifestyles. The project is for all ages, and provides support and advice to people looking to take part in local sport and physical activity.

Brighton & Hove Healthwalks, are a great way to be more active, get out in the fresh air and make new friends.  They are ideal for those who want to start exercising in a gentle and safe way, as well as those who want to walk regularly, but don't have the time to attend longer walks.

Active East Brighton, provides one-to-one sessions for those referred by their GP.  The service aims to help people increase their levels of physical activity, and to reduce levels of both adult & childhood obesity.

TAKEPART International Festival of Sport, in collaboration with the School Sports Parntership and the NHS Brighton & Hove the festival's aim is simple: to use the London 2012 Olympics to encourage more people to get more active more often. The festival provides opportunties for cluibs to showcase themselves, and for people to experience the great sporting culture of the city.

City Sport and Physical Activity Awards, now its third year, the Awards are a celebration of the successful and hard-working sports performers, coaches and volunteers in Brighton & Hove.

Brighton & Hove Sports Forum, represents individuals, organisations, and clubs that share an interest in sport and keeping active in Brighton & Hove. The Sports Forum extends across the voluntary sector and public and private sport providers. The forum is open to all, and provides a platform for the city's wide and diverse voice of sport.
